If 2024 taught us anything, it’s that the media really does matter. We’re going to have a lot of work to do in 2025 — work that is more important than ever given the right-wing dominance of the landscape and the ongoing assaults against fact-based reporting.
Media Matters exists to fight the lies and misinformation that poison our news. We’re proud of the 20 years of work that we’ve done to sound the alarm about bad actors and hold the media accountable for falling for and collaborating with them.
But we need to be clear-eyed about what’s coming: The information ecosystem will be at its most dangerous at a time when truth-telling will be most necessary. Social media platforms and major news organizations are backsliding in the face of sustained bad-faith attacks from the right. Journalists continue to face threats and intimidation for accurate reporting and heavy pressure to adopt narratives from right-wing media, no matter how little evidence there may be to support them. Media Matters is committed to staying in the fight, and we’re not backing down. But we can’t do it alone.
